Social Media is an end of face-to-face conversation:

There were sweet sound old days. When people had a great connection among their souls. And, that great connection was established beyond the existence of a cyber-world. The proximity was the cause of socialization. But, since we, as people, have entered into a world of rapid connectivity. We have defied that great connection among the souls which was once the defining purpose of our existence.

Where has that connection gone? That connection is being lost into shadowy scepticalthe  emergenc of cyber-world. Now, people hardly have any connection whatsoever, the among themselves. As, there may be hundreds of acquaintances from other far away corners of the world. But, people hardly know their neighbours faraway. This is the unfortunate misery! It is an era of online chatting, online fidgeting and online dating. So, how would that connection among people build through mutual conversation and physical connectivity?

Instead of face to face conversation, new norm is “web strolling”. As, people find a way to seek socialization through dating apps, social and electronic media. Thus, it has resulted in out-stretching the distance among people, which was once deemed so highly noble and needed. On contrary, few argue that social media has reduced the distances among people. As, entire world is narrowed into a tiny global village, where connectivity defies the speed of light. But, truth of the matter is this connectivity has only increased the distances among the people. Because, now people cannot correlate with other people feelings, as they lack empathy because of hardly having any face to face conversation.

At one side there are few pros of social media that people are connected in “hard times” of global pandemic. In Dickens’ words: “these are the best of times and these are the worst of times”. Since, using social media has revolutionized means of connectivity, which has unprecedented benefits in revolutionizing the entire realm of education, commerce, connectivity. But, access to social media and stretch distances among people has also led to a crises in mental health too. Now, mental health is being seen as a rare commodity. Because, the basic need for which human being are innately “wired”, I mean, there needs of having a physical existence around them with whom they could sense, touch or feel. But, lack of that existence has led to a presence of many mental health problems too. And, during the pandemic, people have seen this “gene coming out of the bottle”.

In fact, recent studies have showed that excessive access to social media has led to sleep deprivation habits among youth. Since, they spend their entire day scrolling across social media. They hardly have time to look around, even in environments where there are people around. Still, they would remain indulged in to their devilishly smart “smartphone devices”. So, sleep deprivation because of overnight texting, surfing and searching habits further contribute to worsening of physical and mental health of individuals.

On one end social media has revolutionized the world of commerce, but it has also brought a new form of threat to civil society in the form of cyber-crimes. Cyber criminals use these platforms to commit frauds with innocent citizens. So, where there is glimmer of hope, there is also saddened shadows of devilish practices of cyber criminals, who befool innocent people.

In conclusion, it can be said that social media has revolutionized means of communication but it has a dark side too. As, physical distances among people are widened. Physical health, mental well-being and existence of that social glue is being lost in the nostalgic past. The crises around people health cannot be ignored. And, since, people are social animals so their needs as social animals are hardly met by the introduction of this great revolutionary change. Therefore, it is important to reconsider the usage of social media. Because, excessive exposure to social media poses more harm than good.

Flooding and Climate change in Pakistan

Essay: Flooding and Climate change in Pakistan (By: Khawaja Umer Rashid) Flooding in Pakistan has become a normalized devastator. Annually, devastations caused by ravine and urban flooding are remarkably dangerous. Recently, flooding swept through metropolitan cities in Pakistan including Lahore and Karachi. It is worth noting that these floods cause extraordinary damage. The cost of flooding is both economic as well as personal. People lose their lives as well as their property gets damaged. In fact, this rise in flooding is directly caused by environmental changes which are happening across the world.  Knox, J. C. (2000) has described that floods in today’s world are largely caused by changes in climate patterns induced by human activities. Climate changes have resulted in the melting of glacial at more rapid rates. As a result of rising temperatures water evaporates more rapidly which results both in droughts as well as extreme amounts of precipitation. The d...

Literary Analysis of a poem.

Literary Analysis:   The poem is written in free verse. The poet has used various metaphors and imagery to paint a picture of beauty. The poet uses the metaphor of “gently moving bamboo” to paint a picture of the beautiful and flexible body of the beloved”. The beloved eyes are full of peace.
